General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Here is my suggestion:
Topical treatments are usually the first line of defence in treating psoriasis. Two active ingredients, salicylic acid and coal tar, are approved for the treatment of psoriasis. There are other products that contain substances such as aloe vera, jojoba, zinc pyrithione and capsaicin, which are used to moisturize, soothe, remove scale or relieve itching.

I suggest you use fragrance-free products and apply moisturizers after showering, limit your lukewarm showers to 10 minutes or less.

To treat itching you may use calamine, Hydrocortisone (a weak steroid), Camphor, Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride (HCl), Benzocaine and Menthol.

Corticosteroids are frequently used treatment for psoriasis, they reduce the swelling and redness of lesions. Anthralin, synthetic vitamin D3, and vitamin A are also used in prescription topical treatments to control psoriasis lesions.

If all these treatments do not work consult with your primary care physician to prescribe more potent psoriasis treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Suzana Zharri,
General & Family Physician
